HONORING HERITAGE THROUGH MUSIC
The creation of the Utah Pipe Band was initiated by William P. Nisbet. Although he and the band's 15 other charter members had varying backgrounds and professions, they were united in their commitment to preserving Scottish music and traditions in the United States. Many had emigrated from the United Kingdom and became active in the cultural organizations that existed in Utah during the late 1800s and early 1900s, such as the Caledonian and Thistle Clubs. Drawing upon the experience and community created by these groups, they established the Utah Pipe Band in 1937, carrying forward the American tradition of celebrating the many cultures and heritages brought to the U.S. by immigrants from around the world.
